JULIA & BUDDY 2014: SUCCESS!

JULIA & BUDDY at the Midtown International Theater Festival was a success. We got lots of good feedback from the audiences, including a couple of people giving us a standing ovation in the fourth performance, as well as two very positive reviews.

From Joseph Verlezza, CEOExpress
(excerpt) "The bare stage at the Jewel Box Theatre... does not deter the new play JULIA & BUDDY from instantly making it a playground for wit, intellect and heartfelt affection as two actors inhabit the stage and begin their ninety-minute banter. Claire Warden playing Julia and Buddy inhabited by Matthew DeCapua seem to caputre and understand the age-old quip that 'opposites attract' and give evidence of proof to this notion with exceptional clarity."
And from Ashley Hutchinson, Drama-Queens
(excerpt) "With direction by N.G. McClernan, Warden and DeCapua make Julia and Buddy respectively, become true depictions of real people, even with a fantastical script. Thus, with various philosophical questions being asked throughout the show and modern stereotypes being broken, this was a romantic comedy that was anything but predictable."
I think I might like the second review better than the first - it has a little more edge. The first review is so glowing it sounds like the critic was on drugs when he wrote it. I loved it, of course.

Here are some production photos that didn't make the cut and get used in show publicity materials and social media. We took lots of pictures - that's the secret to getting good photographs - take lots of them. We couldn't have used them all even if they were all perfect. But these also-rans while not without charm, are not perfect. You can click on each photo to enlarge it.

We got a complaint from an audience member that although Matt's shirt was unbuttoned in the production photos, which we used to promote the show, he kept it buttoned up during the performances. To this day I still don't know why he decided to keep it buttoned up. I felt it was his choice to make at any time (maybe he was feeling fat?) and besides, I didn't want to suggest he match the production photos for fear that it would seem to be for my own personal predilections.
